Prolonged throttle response...!?!?

Post by Sascha » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:52 am

Hey guys,

So you may have seen the video I posted on you tube where I give it some throttle and it seems to stay open (even though the throttle itself has immediately returned to its idle position). I am wondering if this is being caused because my float position is letting in too much gas?! thoughts?

Sticky throttle slide not returning?

Kinks in the cable?

Air leaks?

How does the bike run other than that?

Most likely an air leak.

Check with deodorant or something, spray around the cilinder-head inlet/intake's.
When running and spraying you can hear the idle change if you have a leak. It will most likely drop in RPM. Try to run it slightly lower-than-normal idle, so that the engine is sensitive for changes.

The leak probably comes from there.

It can also be the head-gasket, in that case, it's best to check with soapy-water.
Spray it around the cilinder head gasket, and check for bubble's , ofcourse when running.

Could also be the mechanical advance unit -- if the springs start to get tired over the years, they won't return like they used to, and cause the phenomenon you describe (at least that's what it was when it happened on my bike a few years ago).

Could possibly be that the advance springs have lost their 'spring' and aren't returning to full retard, or the advance might be sticking. Here again, I had the exact same thing happen a few years back, and that's what it turned out to be on my bike, and my mechanic just replaced the entire advance unit.

Might want to confirm that with the mechanical experts though!
