I counted my blessings on what seemed to be a perfectly good petcock still on a project bike I had bought recently. When I removed it from the tank and opened it up to rebuild it, I noticed a bit of the interior wall had deteriorated. There is a thin inner wall with what I believe may have been a little notch to keep the rubber boot and reserve pipe in line while sliding the petcock's lever.
In this picture the pen is pointing to one of the areas the inner wall is missing. I think the tab I am speaking of is also in the picture.
I'm not sure if this really matters, as the pressure resulting from the fuel cock plate seems like it would be enough to hold the valve packing in alignment... is this a common problem with petcocks? Will I need to replace it, or perhaps build a seat for the tab on the fuel cock plate to sit in to prevent it from spinning?
Thanks for looking
Petcock deteriorationFatdog, I just rebuilt mine so a pic was easy. Compare it, but I believe that little slot is very necessary. It keeps the larger rubber hose holders in the proper position and lined up with the hole and slot beneath.
