ok another silly question. 67 honda dream. the set screw that sticks straight out on left side(as opposed to the one that points up a bit) is for the idle? ive turned it clockwise about a turn and it not raising idle

I believe you are talking about the slide stop. It should have a taper on the end. It does not always move the slide up when you turn it in due to friction. So raise the slide a bit and screw it in. See if that does not raise the idle. Could be the screw is short or not screwed in far enough yet. You could always open the throttle and screw it in all the way then back it out to the right idle setting.

Are you sure you are not turning the idle mixture screw?

regards,
Rob

on the left(gear shift side) of carb theres 2 screws. one points at 90 degrees out from carb. the other is off set a bit further back. ive been turning the one that points straight out. i think it may be the mixture screw because last night when i messed with it the exhaust was noxious smelling almost like raw fuel. I'm going to break down and order that Dave? silver`s manuel so i dont have to bother you guys with stupid stuff. i should have just left it alone and rode it around town. now its running like crap again. nation

theres also a screw on the other side(brake side) that is below the bowl

See pic...

The screw on the bottom drains the bowl.
