Fuel/Carb issue or something else?

Post by Donovan303 » Fri Nov 23, 2012 6:47 pm

Hello all,

I have recently begun work on a CA77 Dream. Bike is here:

http://www.honda305.com/forums/a-couple ... 32624.html

It was originally registered as a '69 and was taken off the road in '72-'73.

Engine #104187

The bike runs and idles well, but when I shift into 2nd gear and apply throttle the bike lurches and acts starved for fuel. It is OK in 1st until the top end, probably over 3/4 throttle, then it will act similar to the lurching in 2nd but not quite as bad. 3rd gear seems OK and very smooth. I have not had the bike in 4th for any real length of time and probably not enough throttle range to know.

I've checked the tank and it is incredibly clean. I was surprised. The petcock has been gone through and is functioning normally (I think). I'm getting 100ml of fuel every 12 seconds. I'm running a 90 degree elbow type fuel filter. Main jet is 120. I believe this is a stock jet. Carb has been cleaned. This bike will start with one kick cold every time.

I'm thinking I may have a fuel issue but I'm not sure where else to look.

I'm open for any ideas.

Thanks,
Christopher
