CB77 clip setting

Post by Jlovvorn » Wed Dec 05, 2012 7:55 pm

what clip do you run on the Cb77?

My new rebuild seems rich.

Bogs down off the line under 4k, starts without any choke regardless of temp, and running 1.5 out on air screws with no signs of leanness.

Plugs are starting to turn black, but I am literally less than 5 miles into new motor so not much to see there.

Timing is dead on and confirmed with light.

I am running second from bottom, and thinking of going up to a middle setting.

Thoughts?

Are you running the stock needles, or the Keyster needles? What size and brand jets? Altitude where you live? Carbs cleaned, rebuilt? Stock filterrs and exhaust? More info needed to help you.

Thanks Davo.

Stock needle and jets, 100 feet, stock exhaust without baffles. Uni pod filters.

Carbs squeaky clean, and have been rebuilt and rebuilt more times than I can count.

Feel pretty confident on the float levels, flanges tights but not warped, floats are NOS and functioning, caps are tight with new gaskets, balanced using Ed's FAQ.

I thought the pods would make me lean, not rich.

One more question. Slides in the correct sides? cutouts facing filters? The stock clip setting is second groove from the bottom. The pilot jet meters 0- 1/4 throttle, needle 1/4-3/4, and main jet 3/4 - wfo. Sounds like you're rich on the pilot circut, float level or pilot jet size.

Change to middle clip had no effect, or maybe worse.

Slides in correct.

Somehow by trial and error I got these carbs to run right with my old, tired engine.

Now with a fresh rebuild, things have changed and they won't accelerate.

It lugging like crazy, like every start is in 3rd gear rather than first.

I am astonished at how difficult it is to get these bikes to run right.

And the rebuild is still leaking oil too, just to make me even more happy.

It just hit me - could this lugging be cause by a stretched timing chain or tensioner problem?

Or, gasp, the timing being off a tooth?

If you did Ed's tune up recipie properly, and it worked, you're not a tooth off. Valves adjusted properly?
