Sno Bol and Pine Sol

Post by hondadreamca77 » Tue Aug 06, 2013 3:21 pm

Common cleaning products tips that worked for me.....

SNO BOL TANK DE-RUST:
While waiting for the CA77 carb rebuild kit to arrive I removed the tank and de rusted it inside with Sno Bol (Dollar General $1.99). It was pretty nasty. Drained it, used bottle Sno Bol, sloshed every ten minutes for one hour, drained again and then flushed with gas, drained, blew out with air. I had previously rattled the inside with nuts and small bolts when I first got it. I got this tip off a Kawasaki forum.....I am AMAZED at the result, the inside looks new! I am now letting the tank sit with gas in it over night to test for pin holes or leaks.

PINE SOL CARBURETOR BATH:
Took carb. all apart and soaked all pot metals 4 hours in Pine Sol......then boiled all in water .......looks GREAT! Got this tip off this forum.

Only metal parts used in above applications. Rubber/ cork items set aside. Do NOT soak carb in SNO BOL....only pine Sol. otherwise it will eat up the pot metal.

Maybe we should start a 305 Cookbook.....?

Sno Bol contains hydrochloric acid which eliminates rust. It works on steel but am told it dissolves pot metal and is corrosive to chrome. I am not a chemist...

Appears to be the same as "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner for about the same price. (20% hydrochloric acid)

I use it to de-rust parts before zinc plating. Works great, but flash rust returns quickly, so you have to coat it soon after using.

Brewsky,

Are you doing the Zinc plating yourself or sending out? I read this is easy to learn...

Read the threads...going to try zinc plating in near future.

Re: Tank -You are correct; after getting shiny clean, inside of tank did flash up with a brown coating.
