Bonheaded Float Adjustment Question

Post by akpasta » Fri Nov 21, 2014 12:26 pm

Hello,

I noticed my 64' CB77 was running funny, and then that it started leaking fuel from the right float bowl. So I replaced both floats. One was badly leaking, the other slightly. I replaced them and just went with however they were set (they were set the same). I didn't adjust them to 22.5mm. I think the float setting is lean, not getting enough fuel. But I want to ask what the symptoms might be. My previous poor running symptoms were gone with the new floats, the new symptoms are: occasionally sputtering at high rpms when you close the throttle and strange idling symptoms such as, for example, if you are riding for several blocks straight with the throttle open, and you come to idle the engine will die (like there's no fuel), then when you get it started again it will idle very high as it would if you're running out of gas.

My guess is I need to correctly set the floats (duh), but I'm mostly wondering if my assessment of the symptoms is correct with lean float setting.

Thanks!

sounds feasible assuming you were not experiencing those symptoms prior. issues at idle with low fuel level affecting the idle jet etc.
