Dream Carb?

Post by OldStan » Tue Jun 02, 2015 7:27 pm

I picked up the carburetor on the left at a swap meet. The one on the right is my spare for my CA77 (needed a bowl for it.) They are both PW22, both jets are the same size as well. The only difference is the fuel inlet. The one on the right is has a threaded hole in that boss nearly the size of the boss and centered, while the one on the left is a smaller hole- not threaded- that is off center. Is there some sort of fitting that was wedged in there on some? I was told it was brand new, and it looks like it, super clean on the inside, just missing the float.

Looks like a different slide pin design also?

Yes it is. I just checked, they're both the internal shape of the steel insert on the right, but to my surprise the one on the left is a plastic pin!

My guess is the one with plastic pin is the later issue.... And the they will shear off!

Also, the fuel inlet is probably for an interference fit barb.

A couple of real money saving changes!!

I contacted Keihin's technical dept a while back to find a replacement plastic pin with no luck.

This carb like the 1966/67 CB/CL77 carbs were issued with that nylon guide.
You leave them in carb cleaner to long and that pin disappears.
If you have an old gas valve you may find the outlet tube will fit that hole. ?. .............lm

Thanks lm, I don't have any old gas valves at the moment, but I'll keep that in mind, never know when I might run across something like that. Also looked at my CL77 (67) and it has the nylon as well. Luckily I never used carb cleaner on them. Good to know.
