CL77 Keyster set settings
Hi All, I just rebuilt the carbs on my 66 CL 77. What are the correct settings with this set? Float level is set to 22.5 mm, main jet is 130, idle jet 39, needle is in the third position in the middle. The mix is too rich, the bike starts only without the choke, with the choke on it stops running. Ideas, experiences? Thanks!

Re: CL77 Keyster set settings
I Do Use the CB77 Carb Kit in all the CL77 carbs I rebuild and never a problem.
Never heard of a 39 idle jet. ..................lm

LM, probably this is not the same Keyster that you have then. Also, the float bowl gaskets are the three-ply construction versions that are not supposed to swell, that is different from the one you mentioned earlier, as far as I remember. I purchased it here, for the CL77: http://cart.hondanuts.com/Search.aspx?k=keyster
A float level related question: how should the 22.5 mm be measured? I measured it between the notch on the carb case that is roughly in line with the surface of the gasket and the bottom of the float with the carb being upside down. Is that correct?

From what you describe you are adjusting the float properly.
Now squeeze the floats to the the middle so they won't contact the gasket.
The kit you used for a CL77 should be a KH-0016.
The jets KEYSTER supplies are 130, 38 same as HONDA used stock. KH-0016
HONDA recommends the clip be installed to the second from the bottom slot.
KEYSTER has always used the laminate bowl gaskets and "THEY DO SWELL".
If yours haven't the statement may be more like "Not Yet".
When I got started with these bikes (1963) there was a statement which was true then and holds true today.
"Your carburetor problems are in direct proportion to the miss adjustment of your points".
I started using the CB77 (KH-0017) KEYSTER kits with the CB77 and CL77 when I had completely restored CB77 and a CL77 I was breaking in for the owners.
The CB was easy to start and warmed up easily but the CL was a bit tough to get to idle and not pop a lot.
I installed the CB77 KEYSTER kits and problem was solved.
I've not used a CL77 kit since then and you will find I have rebuilt many carb sets for fellers on this list and all are running the engines well. ...................lm
