PW26L faces the wrong way

Post by cleg » Fri Aug 19, 2011 5:23 pm

I am having issues with my left carb 1966 CB77. The carb is a LH carb with the choke lever attached. The throttle valve (slide) is marked PW26L but when installed the cutout faces the engine and not the intake. WTF!

Sounds like you have a right side slide your left side carb.
They can be interchanged but they have to bottom out and have the cut-outs facing aft.
Improperly installed slides have been the cause of many a soiled pair of underwear upon start up.

As I research this carb issue, I am finding that some of the LH rounded carbs have the fuel inlet on the RH side (looking from the back of the carb) and the one I have has the inlet on the LH side. The ones with fuel the inlet on the RH side have the guide (nib) that is inside the throttle bore on the RH side. My throttle bore guide is on the LH side. There is a slide on ebay and it states for RH side and gives a Part# 16141 - 275 - 004. When looked up on Western Hills Honda site it shows this part# for a CL77 LH carb.

Are the carbs for CB77 and CL77 the same?

Would you agree that this is a LH carb?

Maybe someone took a right carb and put the choke lever on it? As you stated the fuel port should face inside. I'd be looking for a square left carb.

Ok, I thought that this had to be a LH carb bc of the choke lever, but as you state it is a RH modded to LH with an incorrect throttle valve.
