Petcock internal nuts!

Post by Kigsby » Mon May 14, 2012 3:54 pm

I'm getting ready to clean and coat the gas tank. I've taken the petcock off and I noticed there are three nuts on the inside of the gas tank that the screws screw into. Are those welded on? Do I have to worry about them coming loose if I shake some bb's around to remove the rust? They would be very hard to get back on the screws from inside the tank!

Thanks,
Keri

Keri

They are welded to the tank. Don't worry. Honda wouldn't be that cruel!

Thanks G! You never know....I pictured a Japanese engineer designing them and giggling while he did it! It could be the same guy that designed that metal rod that goes through the air filter that drives me crazy every time I have to install the filter! :-)

I think that the screws are JIS rather than modern ISO metric threads, so don't throw them away....

Those Japanese guys could never match the sadistic design principles that us Brits gave to the world. I once had a little BSA scooter and you had to dismantle the whole engine to get to the points.
