cl77 fuel tank crossover nipple

Post by Rickytic » Tue May 15, 2012 3:28 pm

Just got a cl77. The fuel tank has a fuel flow valve with a nipple on the side and two nipples leading straight down. I know the two nipples that are straight down feed fuel to the carbs. The nipple on the side is blocked off with a piece of hose and screw. The side nipple should be for a crossover tube leading from the left side of the tank to the fuel flow valve? Problem is, cannot locate the nipple from the left side of the tank to the fuel valve. Does not appear to have one.

The tank has been repainted at some point in time. I am wondering if I have the wrong fuel flow valve or has the nipple from the left side of the tank been removed ? Any help?

Additonally, if the nipple from the tank has been removed, how does the fuel from the left side of the tank get to the right side and into the fuel flow valve? I give?????

You have a later style tank with an early petcock. Honda deleted the balance pipe because it didn't really do anything. The tank bridge is quite low at the back so fuel balances out with movement of the bike.

The balance pipe is a pain when you need to remove the tank. You are better off without it. I have a NOS replacement for the early(seamless) tank and that has no balance pipe either.

Thanks G. I was looking in Bill Silvers book and found out the same information after I posted. Appreciate the information though. There appears to be a lot of things on this bike that were either earlier or later than production. I need to remember the vin number so I can go thru Bill Silvers book and try to make sense of what should be on it and what should not.

Sure I will be hearing from you again down the road, because I sure have a lot of questions.

Keep the shinyside up!!
