I took apart my cb77 yesterday and i found that i have not the rear axle collar(# 42620-268-000) on my rear hub.
It seem like the other owner rode the bike like that !?
Do i really need this spacer ?
Bert
is it that bad ?
Re: is it that bad ?
The collar transmits the clamping force from the wheel spindle through the centre race of the bearings. Without it there the force goes through the actual bearing surfaces and the bearings will wear very quickly. The bearings are not designed for excessive axioal load.
So, yes - it is an essential part.

You're welcome. You might wand to check the bearings for axial (along the spindle) play. The damage may have already been done....
