I ve heard some talk about an offset cotter, and I know it goes in the transmission somewhere, but what exactly is an offset cotter? Where does it go? Thanks Frank

I have a 305 dream that was driving out of 2nd gear on anything other than a light throttle. On stripping the box I couldn’t see anything damaged or worn. On selecting the gears and looking at the dog engagements I could see 2nd gear was only about 30% engaging on the dogs. Researching this I learnt that Honda issued a recall and offered two types of offset cotters, one with .05 and one with 1.0 mm offset. I had the part numbers but couldn’t get them anywhere. I took the two original cotters to a friend who owns a machine shop and he made me two with the larger offset. It made a big difference to the dog engagement and now it drives perfectly.
