Heavy Clutch Pull?

Post by killbam » Tue Mar 24, 2009 10:18 pm

Hey guys, just replaced the clutch cable on my '66 CB77 and was hoping that the clutch pull would be decently light, but I'm finding that it's not. It's heavy enough to make you uncomfortable with any amount of riding. I've lubed the cable, taken off the outer crank case cover and cleaned and re-lubed all the gears in there, but it's still heavy.

Do I need to dig further into the transmission to get at it? Is this common on these 305s? Your thoughts please.

Does the cable have any extra length which will look like it doesn't go direct from yje lever to the bottom adjuster?
How do you adjust your cable?. ......lm

I went through exactly the same thing last fall, and got a lot of info from all the guys on here...my experience is this.....the lever pulls hard if the clutch adjusting lever in the side case is positioned too high....it needs to be as far south as it will go, so you get more pulling power with the lever......so...make sure the adjustment that the cable has at the side case is all the way in, to start....that means, very few threads showing on the adjustment. That puts the end of the cable as far down as possible. Then turn the big adjuster on the outside of the case, to take up the slack.....you'll still have to fiddle with the various places that you can adjust...but that will get you in the ball park....Hope this helps...or even makes sense!
