I took the bike out last night for its longest ever run so far - about 30 miles. I made it to my destination with no issues but when I went to leave my battery was too dead to crank the bike - another issue I'll address later... OK I say to myself, I'll just bump start it like I said I would do since I hadn't installed the kick starter yet - another issue I'm working on.
I couldn't push start the bike - the clutch just seemed to slip until I got slow enough and then it would lock up when the bike came to a stop. I started out in 3rd and 4th and worked my way down to 1st. I never felt any slippage while riding so this seemed very odd. It is a newly rebuilt motor so I was taking it pretty easy, but I never felt it slip at all. The lever has the correct amount of play and otherwise the clutch seemed to work correctly other than this occurrence. I even loosened the lever to give it more play and better lock up.
I rebuilt this motor and went through the clutch pretty extensively making sure the springs were in spec measurement wise and that the plates and discs were in good condition and with in spec. This assembly has the holes in the pressure plate so I think its one of the latest revisions.
Clutch plate sequence = Thick steel plate, cork plate/steel plate, cork/steel, cork/steel, cork/steel, cork/pressure plate.
