how to remove front sprocket?

Post by sotxbill » Tue May 12, 2009 8:27 pm

ok.. bought a new cl77, this is number 2. got it running by quickly rebuilding the carbs and it runs sweet. but..

rear tire is flat so I had the chain tensioners loose. but I changed the oil and installed new plugs, so I decided to run it a bit to circulate the new oil. and forgot about the loose chain.

and low and behold.. I got the slack chain caught up between the front sprocket and the kick starter shaft.. and I mean really tight.

looks like the only way out is to remove the front sprocket and pull the whole mess out.. so I remove the two bolts and sprocket retainer..

question!!!!!!!.. does the sprocket just pull out or do you have to turn it like I did the retainer??. Its very very very tight and I dont want to break something by pulling too hard??

Yes,,it was a knuckle headed thing to do..and I will probably be a week getting this mess sorted out.

thanks for helping out a goofus.... Bill

After you have removed the retainer the sprocket is designed to come in line out on the splines. No twist or turn. .....lm

Thanks, used a gear puller to put a little pressure on it and the whole mess popped out... now to fix the flat tire, and oil the stiff chain. Battery replaced, carbs rebuilt, gas tank por15ed, fuel lines replaced and it starts easily, runs well, carbs adjust perfectly. So its coming along..
