WD 40 on clutch plates

Post by brewsky » Sun Aug 02, 2009 6:46 pm

Finally got the chance to put my 66 ca77 back together (been sitting for 30 years when I bought it last fall).
Fired right up after new battery, oil, and points cleaning, but the clutch plates were stuck together. I could feel the clutch spring tension, but the plates would not free up when the lever was pulled.
Removed the cover and manually worked the plates apart and finally freed them up with WD 40 without having to disassemble the basket.
NOW WHAT?
Clean friction plates
Replace friction plates
Put back together and ride?
