Ok.. I 've finally got it all back together last night. got it running and went for a test drive. tranny seems fine, the non existing clutch is fine now that the plates have been spit and re-installed. leaking gas tank sealed and holding.

fuel bowl is leaking .. and its apparently due to a pin hole... so thats comming.. engine doesnt want to past half throttle.. but I havent timed it yet... so my $800 wonder is starting to become a driver for occasional trips. Hopefully I can wrap up the last little details and start cleaning up its looks.

Thanks, Again for the help and suggestions. Bill

Stickey clutch update

Post by sotxbill » Tue Aug 04, 2009 8:30 pm

update on stickey clutch.

I start the bike, roll it forward and drop it into first gear... Then I put down to the road to a parking lot..(after 5pm to the business is closed) and do circles with the clutch lever held in..

first time it took about 12 minutes for the oil to get very hot and the clutch broke free..SUCCESS!!!!

nope.. two days later, got home from work had supper and jumped on bike... same drill
same 20 minutes and it broke loose. Then I got to run down the trinity river for a nice 5 mile ride and then came back by streets.

Next day same story..

Following week... clutch broke loose at about 10 minutes..

Flew to Wyoming for a project for 6 days..

3rd week.. Monday... broke loose at about 5 minutes and enjoyed ride.
Tues (today) broke loose in about 3 minutes...

Maybe I will not have to pull the cover after all... I'm running delo 15w-40 because I keep about 5 gallons on hand in the motor home as the 8.3 liter cummins takes a 5 gal oil change. Chevron delo is suppose to be jaso MA rated oil and is one hell of a cleaning oil due to is makeup. I might actually get luckey.

Now if I can find an uphostery shop for the seat, the bike would be.. "fair"..It runs pretty good, but has a lot of rust specs and original paint, so for an "out of town clunker", its turned out to be an ok project..

jumped on the bike tonight..pushed it off and jumped into first... went about 20' and the clutch broke loose. Life is looking good. Big rainstorm coming and my brakelight is out.. so back home to see whats up and stay dry.

brake light was a sticking button on b-switch. I lube it, worked it loose and reinstalled the switch. Lets see if that will fix it.

Tomorrow will drop the old seat off for a recover so It will probably next week before I can see how the sticky clutch is doing. But is looking like it'll be okay. if so, this bike is a rider, I'll probably wash it up, turn it loose and grab another.

Seems like your clutch is gradually giving up its stubborn streak!
