Oil dip stick stuck

Post by idahobill » Wed Apr 07, 2010 12:12 am

I just ran into a new problem with my CL77. The dipstick on this bike is a spring affair and it seems to have gotten wrapped around something in the crankcase! Gently pulling on the spring confirms it is wrapped up on something. Has anyone else had this situation? Also any ideas short of splitting the case's to free up the spring?

I have not encountered this problem personally, but if I needed to solve it; the first thing I would try is removing the tube and rotate the trans in either direction to achieve release. If that does not work, the most likely resolve would be to split the case.
I got curious about this and needed to see for myself so I installed a stick in my now inverted Eng case just to see how close this dipstick came to the main shaft and was shocked as to how little room there was for it. About a half inch from the main shaft.
My hope is that someone here has a better idea but if you've never split a case, there are plenty around here who can guide you through it. Not that hard to do. Good luck,,,,,,,,,RW
