Kickstarter does not engage (anymore)

Post by bonjour » Sun Apr 24, 2011 8:50 am

So, I was driving along the country side, trying to keep up with some modern day supersports (ya :) )

Anyway, after a few miles I gave up and decided to relax again and enjoy the Dutch scenery , nice empty road in front of me... just really relaxing and cruising..

The all of a sudden I felt a huge 'shock' , like a fender of something had come off, I directly look at my rear fender... well.. It was still in one peace, everything was, The engine still worked properly, but I decided to pull over and have a good look at the bike for missing pieces..
Well... nothing to be seen.. strange indeed...

So, I putted on my gloves again and kick on the bike.... and kick on the bike... what the $#^#^#

That's what that shock was... something internal must have come off (electrical start does not work, something wrong with the starter clutch, worn probably)

So... now I knew what that was...

Because the engine still ran fine, I bump started it, worked great and no strange noises, So I drove home.

I inspected the whole thing visual, and the 'external' kick gear still works fine, the problem really is on the inside of the motor, because the shaft inside the motor still rotates when I kick it, it only does not engage...

Someone has any idea what this is ? And does my motor need to be splitted ? ( I would really hate to do that )

Thanks,
Ed

Ya may want ta remove the KS cover and look there.
If ya don't see a problem ya may want to remove the clutch cover and look in there.
I have a KS shaft here that broke in half at the oil hole for the 12mm bushing so that is known to happen. ................lm
