Shift Drum question: Should I replace?

Post by Bob750 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 2:17 pm

Is this Shift Drum okay to put back in? I'm concerned about the wear/damage in these two photos. didn't notice this until I was going through my parts a second time to find parts I wanted to replace (like yucky washers, too-rusty bolts and stuff).

To zoom in closer, click an image; then in the upper right corner you'll see a arrow icon to make it bigger. Ohio Cycle has new for $150. There was a good used on eBay for $40, but it's "no longer available." Anyone have one to sell if it should be replaced? The rest of this part looks good and smooth. I'll also add that the pins and rollers of the shift forks are in excellent shape, no imperfections...

Thanks,
Bob

No, not wise to put back in.

If you're a good welder, go for it, if not locate a new one / good used one.

I always change the pins and clips when I'm in there, but that's up to you.

Thanks, Jensen.

I'm not an experienced welder. I've got a good used part lined up, so I won't have to sell my other kidney to get an NOS one from Ohio Cycle. (I'm saving that kidney for a new Wire Harness.)

The pins and rollers are in excellent shape, surprisingly. And I have new tabbed washers on hand.

....Rolling restoration, my ass! ;-)

Apparently I don't have a good use part lined up. (Member made offer to sell; I agreed. Now he's reading, but no longer replying to, my PMs--makes me sad.) So, I'm still looking...

Anyone? Anyone?
