Hi everyone,
I wanted to gear down my cb77 since I live in a mountainous area. I had a 16t sprocket on the front, and 32 on the rear. When I took the side case off, I noticed that the chain had been chewing away at the transmission housing! Thankfully there is no hole yet! There was plenty of aluminum filings.
I think part of the reason might be the chain I'm using - an RK x-ring chain. It might be a bit fatter/higher. However, the tolerance with the 16t sprocket is VERY CLOSE. I would recommend NOT using that large a sprocket on the cb77.

16 tooth sprocket too big!16 tooth sprocket too big - or fat chain?Hi Davo,
Thanks for the response. It must be my 530 x-ring chain. I now have a lot of grooves on the inside of my housing! But the 15t sprocket took care of that - and also gave me the lower gearing that I need for all the hills around here. I always appreciate your input on things. Keep up the good work! GG
