Kick/Joint Starter Removal

Post by Tinman » Sat Sep 22, 2012 6:43 pm

I need to tap the wisdom and experience of the members on this board. I'm trying to remove the r/case off of my 65' CA77 so that I can try and find out why my kick starter won't engage and why the starter motor won't turn the engine over (yes the starter motor works), but I'm having difficulty removing the joint that holds the kick start arm off of the splined shaft.

I've searched the archives and have found little information. I tried to wiggle it with the kick start arm in it as one member suggested and also tried a gear puller that a Honda mechanic suggested. All to no avail.

So what's the secret? I haven't tried a "BFH" yet, not sure that would help in this case but It'd make me feel better!

Thanks in advance.

Take the dynamo cover screws out too. The kick start pedal stays with the side cover when it comes off. It should be spring-loaded, so hold it in place as you pull the side cover off.

Thanks 48, I'll give it a try. I thought that it had to come off first.
