I have two different clutches for my ca77. One has 6 friction plates and binds up when it gets hot and I can't get it to adjust correctly. Then I have the old one that came out of the bike that has 5 friction plates and I tried putting that one back in the bike, but it just slips. When riding it'll work OK, but you can't kick start the bike or hit the throttle to quickly.

Any information on this problem would be greatly appreciated because I'm new at this and I honestly don't know what to do with it anymore.


This is the clutch I took out that was binding up when hot and I couldn't get it to adjust. It either would slip or wouldn't go into gear. I replaced it with the 5 plate clutch, but it just slips, I believe it's just worn out.

Did you adjust the clutch lifter worm, with the cable completely slacked off, to get maximum lift? With the sidecover removed, and still attached to the clutch cable, pull the clutch lever all the way to the handlebar. Does the angle between the cable and the release arm go past 90° ?

+1 on the cable adjustment. Another thing that can limit travel is if your clutch lever is (or ever was) bent and hits the grip before it should.

Also, make sure the 6-disc clutch has 3mm thick friction discs, and the 5-disc clutch has 4mm (nominal). Both should have a thicker steel plate "A" as the first one in against the back of the clutch center and the rest of them the thinner "B" plate.
