Neutral light switch post orientation

Post by catterar » Sun May 26, 2013 9:52 am

I'm not sure this is in the correct area of the forum, but here goes.
I cannot get my neutral light to come on when the transmission is in the neutral position. The shaft that the neutral light switch post engages has a slot at the 9 o'clock position when the transmission is in neutral. The neutral light switch post achieves continuity when it is at the 11 o'clock position. So when it is assembled with the switch post at the 9 o'clock position there is no continuity in neutral.
Is there any way to adjust the switch so that continuity is achieved at the 9 o'clock position or does the shaft need to be repositioned? If the shaft needs to be repositioned what does that involve?
Thanks,
Bob Cattera

Have you used a multimeter or anything to rule out grounding issues at the bulb mount?

A ground at the bulb mount would result in the light staying on, or blowing a fuse (provided you have power to the bulb, which would be something to check.) The ground is through the switch.

There is no adjustment for the neutral switch and it only mounts one way. The slot it engages with is in the shift drum, so unless someone did some welding and machining ( which is highly unlikely), it can't be wrong. I don't recall the position of the switch when it's in neutral. Mine didn't work at all. I took the switch apart and cleaned the hard grease out of it and put in some dielectric grease, works great. Maybe someone took yours apart and got something out of whack.

I do have power to the bulb. When I ground the wire that the neutral light switch plugs into the neutral light lights.
I'll pull the switch apart and see what there is to see. A new switch may be in order.
