You should temporarily install the left engine cover, then the shift arm, to properly support the shifter shaft, otherwise it will be deflecting too much when trying to rotate it. Also, turn the output shaft in both directions to accomplish stationary gear changing. Regards, Chase

Problem Solved

A final update. My shifting issue was caused by my having 2nd gear on the counter shaft on backwards. This prevented the one fork from sliding into 1st, thus the transmission always being in neutral. I feel kinda foolish but yet happy since I can now begin the reconstruction phase. Thanks to everyone who offered help, even Mr. Bill Silver himself! Very honored to receive his expert advice!!
