oil filter seizedoil filter seizedI recently had to replace the shift assembly on my '65 cb77 because the splines were stripped. In order to do that, I had to remove the clutch, the primary drive as well as the oil filter. While I had it off, I decided to replace all of the case screws including the screws to the oil filter cover (and out of curiosity took off the cover as well by prying it off with a flathead screwdriver and it was surprisingly difficult to get back on and had to hit it with a plastic hammer). When I put the case back on...it wasn't fitting properly, but I eventually was able to get it back on. Yesterday, when I pulled the case to replace the gasket, it wasn't coming off and it took about an hour to actually take it off - which is when I realized that the oil filter was stuck in the case and the filter was seized...the filter doesn't spin on the shaft anymore and the little "rivet" that was once coming out is no longer there. Do you think this is because the oil-filter cover wasn't necessarily flush and therefore didn't line up properly with the oil filter shaft? In order to fix this - I'm assuming I need to replace all of the parts of the oil filter as well as the cover? Can I get away with running it without the filter or is that a terrible idea?
Please let me know your thoughts...can't wait to get back riding!! Thanks!
I agree with Hotshoe that ya didn't look at the alignment of the filter shaft and the pin.
Now look at the cover and ya will probably see the damage ya did then tap the shaft out of the filter and see what damage is there. ...lm
