So this is my first dream and my first motorcycle. I got the bike running after sitting in a barn for 25 years and now I'm on to my next issue. I cannot get the bike into gear at all. I just replaced the clutch cable. But I still have the same issue I did as before. When I use the lever to get the bike into gear it just grinds. What do I need to look into/ do to make this bike operational? Thanks in advance.

Do you have the ball bearing in the right side clutch adjuster?

Have you tried putting the bike into gear while it is rolling?

If the bike was sitting for 25 years the clutch plates are probably stuck. You need to pull the side cover off and clean the plates.I tore apart about five or six Dream engines that sat for many years and all of them had stuck clutch plates!

Yes i have the ball in, i pulled the plates apart and nothing is stuck. I just cannot get the clutch really engaged. and I'll try to do a rolling start.

You have the clutch adjuster set-up properly correct? If so you may have to split the cases and look into the tranny.

My cb77 had a similar problem, and it turned out that some PO had put the wrong number of plates in. If not for LM, I don't think I would have ever figured it out.
