305 cc kick starter question

Hello, anyone know how to put tension on the kick starter spring when I reasemable the rightside engine cover. There doesn't seem to be enough tension when I simply push it on. Any help. Sincerely, CFL Machine, 305 CL77 1965

Load the spring by rotating the lever counter-clockwise until it's at the 11 o'clock position and then slide it onto the kickstart shaft.
