Daigles Scoop of the week

Post by sdaigle240 » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:13 pm

So I already made 2 threads, and seeing as how im all over the place i figured id post up my weekly interests all in one spot, and if anyone feels inclined, im accepting all comments thoughts and opinions on all potential purchases.

I think ill spare you guys the standard stuff i generally look at, like 70's CB's and CL's, unless anyone cares.....

heres one that interested me already this week. suuuuper nice guy on the phone, and gave me the complete run down.

i'll list out some of the things he said

-pervious owner had it running, but must not of gotten past the rusted tank.
-comes with parts bike with stuck motor and no front wheel
-new battery
-new tires
-cables work
-shifts through all gears
-some dents/cracks in front fender
-seat has been repaired with a patch
-harness looks messed with where it goes into the frame
-fork stops gone, so dents in tank
-muffler sheild has a few dants and crack on one mount
-spokes very rusted, otherwise chrome is "good" for age
-needs fork covers
he said overall its pretty nice and by no means a parts bike.

the guy said he cleaned the carbs and never messed with the tank,"it looks pretty nast in there" also never messed with the points. what scared me is that hes a small engine repair man, gut says he genuinly never really dug into the bike.

after talking to him for way too long i would feel bad offering any less then 350, which i think he'd take. another 2.5hr ride though...
im going to think it over for a day or two....leaning towards no with my dream and hawk still in limbo. everything else ive gotten latly has been, clean carbs, file points and they start right up. with any luck though, this could be too. the 60's stuff is a bit more scary where as the 70's stuff ive come across have been in suprisingly great shape.

Steve: looks good. Well worth some effort getting back into shape. ( By the way, how many bikes have you bought in the last several months ? Seems like you PM'd me and you were going to buy a couple more at that time.)

well ive got a "guy" a few hours away, that i hit it off with, who sells several vintage bikes a week. I was in awe the first time i went over there, he literally buys (mostly non running) bikes, fixes and rides them for a bit and re sells them. so we've kind of worked out a deal, i guess you could say, seeing as im a returning customer. Anyway, ive only bought 4 technically 5 bikes since i got into all this a few months back. with the exception of my dream and SH, i've resold all with in 48hrs haha. Ive just been grabbing deals, tuning carbs, and reselling them to friends. now that Ive gotten a good group of buddies to ride with im going to start selling to non friends. I dont expect to make a killing or anything but my new buddy has sold over 200 bikes in the past however many years (has pics of every single bike) and has expressed to me ill be able to enjoy countless bikes, learn alot and more then be able to fund my personal projects with any earnings. thus far, Ive hooked my friends up, so its been all of a hundo here a hundo there, but i can easily see (craigslist 3 times a day for the last 3-4months) how 3-400$ barn bikes can turn into 800$ riders with a tank and carb clean, and a little shinning up. its been alot of fun, but between these and my track car, not a whole lot of working on the dream and SH :(
