Spark problem/question

Post by skampdaddy » Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:59 pm

Just got my motor put back together and mounted. Was checking for spark and realized there was nothing. New condser, points, everything.. When I manually seperate the points no spark but when I accidently had the points go to for and hit the shaft there was spark. Any idea what's going on??

Thanks

Points

Skamp, I would venture a guess the wires going to the points are not insulated from the point plate correctly. Check the position of the little phenolic washers where the wire connects to the points. Also, make sure the points are actually closing all the way. If you're manually separating them with a conductive screwdriver you're not really separating them, there's still contact.........D
