CL77 Points Screws

Post by Spitfire151 » Thu Aug 08, 2013 8:01 pm

Does anyone know the measurements of the "A" and "B" screws and their washers for CL77 points? I'm on CMSNL.com and bikebandit.com looking at schematics but they don't point them out; they just point out the plate screws.

I should add that the reason I ask is that the PO seems to have subbed in some non-traditional screw without washers on the right side which has made my timing a nightmare, left side are nearly stripped.

Those are 4mm screws and depending on the mfg of the assembly and the year they could be either .7 or .75 pitch. Both the screws and the couple of threads in the points plate strip easily. I think NOS points plate assemblies are available and that's the way I would go. I have never seen loose points screws, only stripped and replaced with wood screws. Another thing I've learned is that if you need to tweak one of the gaps to change the timing by a couple degrees, it's much easier to just bend the ground side of the points slightly than trying to loosen and tighten those screws repeatedly. Open the gap slightly to advance the timing and close to retard...
