1. - if rust or other debris gets in the carb jets carb cleaner will not help. It must be removed with a blast of air or very thin wire. (DO NOT RUN WITHOUT A FUEL FILTER!!!!!) (get one at the auto parts or lawnmower shop).

2. In the pic there is an Idle Screw which sets the idle speed. (This is not one you screw all he way in and out 2 turns). Once it is running you can turn this screw IN to increase speed and OUT to decrease speed. The Idle Mixture Screw adjusts the air available at idle. ThIs is the one that you turn all the way in and out a couple of turns. Once you have the idle set and the engine is warm, then use this screw to smooth out the idle.

Also in the pic (barely visible) is the drain screw. This screw can be removed to see if fuel is flowing to the carb.

I suspect your neighbor turned the Idle Screw all the way out which means it will not idle at all. So when trying to start open the throttle just a little bit and then kick. If you loosen the drain screw you an see if gas is getting tho the carb.

What you don't understand is a very small piece of anything (less than a grain of salt) can pug the carb and if it is a small piece of rust carb cleaner will not help.

I know the bike needs some cosmetic help but everything else is pretty clean. I know I need a fuel filter, im in the process of getting one but besides that, the bike was running when my mechanic played with the screws it stopped running and wouldnt start anymore. Should I take everything out and start over? I'm really at a loss here. Not sure what else I can do... :(

DO NOT run it again until there is a fuel filter.

Yes you are going to have to look carefully at the carb again. There is a very small jet in it that is used at low speed and idle. When you put it together also check the float level.

Just turning a screw, unless it was the Idle Screw would not stop the bike from running or prevent it from running. If the Idle Screw was all the way out it probably would not start and only run if you gave it a bit of throttle.

There could be other reasons but start with the obvious. If you had a bit of rust floating around in the tank then while you were riding it stayed agitated and didn't find it's way into the fuel system. Once you stopped the particles settled and found their way into the carb (maybe). Anyhow need to eliminate this problem before continuing.

DO NOT let this mechanic touch it again!!! (Fuel filter pic)

I saw a similar one like that at autozone it said it was universal but when I got there the guy on the register said it wouldn't fit. I feel like every person I talk to just confuses me more. How can a universal fuel fit not fit my bike!!!! When I do get the filter what's next take out the carbs Do I strip them completely or just clean it with air. Empty out the gas tank? Adjust the throttle cable again?

Thanks again guys.

The fuel hose on your bike is smaller than the ends on the filter - need to find one that fits your fuel hose - NAPA or lawn mower shop.

Just one thing at a time. If you have a fuel filter small stuff in the tank won't make a difference. Yes you need to make sure the carb passages are clear before reinstalling.

While you have the carb apart loosen the drain screw on the bottom and retighten so you can easily loosen it once the carb is installed. This is an easy to see if fuel is flowing.

Reinstall - turn air screw out about 2 turns - turn the idle screw out about 4 turns - readjust after engine runs.

Hey guys quick update. Checked my spark plugs they were a little wet so I cleaned them off and check spark. Left side is strong right side is weak(still waiting for my inline filter) My battery started to die on me when I switched the battery and it started right up. Tried to adjust the idling and it Died on me again.

Soo that is where I am.

I'm off today any help on te forum today will be put into real action

Thanks guys

So I assume you pulled the plugs cleaned them, dried them off and reinstalled. Then it started ran for a short time and died. I will bet if you check the plugs again they are wet. Too much fuel - carb problem.

Two possibilities - a small piece of junk (from the gas tank) got under the needle seat and allowed fuel to continue running into the carb. Or the carb float level is set too high. (Long shot - sometimes a carb float will leak and allow fuel into the float so it doesn't "float" anymore). You can check by removing the float and feeling the weight and shaking it to see if has fuel in it.

Back to the carb - Remove the carb and and then the float bowl. Connect the fuel line - hold the carb upright and GENTLY hold the float in the up position and turn on the fuel. No fuel should be leakng out. Next check the float level. Here is a video on how to check and adjust float level (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiexehn33kg) Float height should be 22.5mm (.885") or at least close.

Doing anything else until this is correct is waste of time and so is running without a fuel filter. Snip a 1/4" piece off you fuel line and take it down to an auto parts and find a small inline filter that will work.
