ok i'll do that but if you coudl, could you explain how I'd go about findning G-man's post? (Rookie question i'm sure!)

Look to the yellow menu on the left and click on search. Once there, "speedo clean" or "speedo lube" will get you into some interesting reading. Note that most are of cl77 speedos but yours should not be much different. Rusty
ok i jsut paged through and searched by G-man and eventually found the eaxact issue i'm having. Thanks for the help. it seems the bearing on the input of the speedo is bad and could be siezed causing the cable to really wind up insde the cable and then when enough pressure has built up the bearing releases and makes the speedo read off the charts. Sounds like a little grease on teh bearing might fix it. if not it looks like a new speedo and probably a new cable as well. oh well, i'll hope for the best but plan for the worst! does anyone have a good source for a speedo for a '68 if mine turns out to be bad, (other than Ebay?)

Actually, don't use the exclamation marks and it will. I just put them in and don't know why.Call it a brain fart I suppose. Rusty

a friend of mine had a similar problem with his cb77 speedo, sent it off to http://foreignspeedoinc.com/default.aspx and was happy with the results.
