Timing Cover screws...

Post by Sascha » Mon May 16, 2011 1:32 pm

I lost one of those puney little timing cover screws... Geez! I could have sworn I put enough lock tight on her; anyone got a spare? At least the other two kept their bite... not in dire need at all.

Has this happened to anyone else?

not with the timing cover, but i did with a mint original badge.lost it forever. so then i loc-tited a replacement. then i had to remove it...ever try to drill out a screw that size? what i do now is smear a small amount of silicone where the screw or bolt head contacts.(not the threads, just the head) a thin film, let it dry, then the silicone acts as a grip and a vibration insulator. learned that from a diesel mechanic. i only use loc tite on parts that i hope will never have to be taken apart again. sorry i dont have one. but give this a shot.

loctite comes in many grades

one for every application

including easy removal. and types that need up to only 300f heat will let it out.

im missing both those long , JIS (unabtainium) screws.
whole bike done, and missing 2 silly screws.

id hate to bugger head with helicoils.
