electronic ignition !

Post by Izoomx2 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 8:17 am

Reading thru the posts about this , it seems that there WERE a few options for the electronic ignitions , but sources seem to have dried up. Any one know where I can get an all-inclusive unit NOW ? Wouldn't mind having some 'crash bars' for a while just to protect the bike from me !Any one have some to sell? or a source? Thanks again. (by the way) tank is de-rusted and re-sealed , petcock kit installed , carb cleaned , today we start !!

Probe seems to be selling direct now. Excellent unit, easy to install, reliable, regulator/rectifier not required (but a sensible upgrade). Contact them at info@probe-eng.com. Regards, Chase

Thanks cnight for referrence; I'd decided to get one a few months ago, held off pulling the trigger until after holidays, then learned of unavailability on this site with a sinking feeling.

Just received following reply to my email (Sunday am!):

Lee,

Yes, the Model FS-01E system is available on the Probe Engineering, Inc. "Probe Store" website at: www.probe-eng.com

Click on the "Honda CB77 & CL77" tab in the left column labeled "Categories," and the FS-01E will pop right up. The web site will guide you through the checkout process once you put a unit in your cart. We have the FS-01E in stock.

Thanks for e-mailing.

So I went ahead and ordered one...I've gotten better at setting points with proper windage to compensate for change when you tighten them down (two or three tries vs 10 or 20) but they just won't stay put for me...off enough to be noticeable after less than 100 miles.

I doubt e-ignition will add $300 to value of bike but I've concluded that value of bike is irrelevant as I don't intend to sell in my lifetime; what counts is enjoyment I get from riding the bike. Same rationalization I used to justify putting $300 shocks on my Hodaka woods runner last year, causing Ol' Blue to be jealous of its dirty little cousin.

The main reason I am looking at this unit is that I had great success with a PETRONIX on a old ranchero. After the new ignition , car ran better, stronger , never faltered and always starts first crank ! That is what I am looking for with this Dream ! Thanks again for the link , will be ordering one soon.
