Bike was running now won't start!! Help!!
Bike was running now won't start!! Help!!Hey guys, my names Katie and I live on Long Island. I recently bought a 66 honda dream 305 from a second owner in jersey. Has less then 8k miles on it and at the time it was running a bit rough. (Second gear would be jumpy)
Now I'm new to vintage bikes and I am not a mechanic, so I there's a neighbor who is a mechanic and I asked for the basic tune up and cleaning of the carbs. He got it going and is waiting for me to get the filter...... lONG story short I took it around the block and it just died on me. Now I'm quite upset I thought everything was going smooth. I recently changed the brake cable , fuel hose line, and the clutch cable. The chrome on the bike is pretty pitted but I will send pics ASAP. If anyone knows where I can download a good user manual that would be helpful also. I don't mind getting my hands dirty.. Let me know .. Thanks guys!!! These are fairly simple motorcycles. If you have spark and gas they should run or try to run. If you can't work on this bike or have a friend that does you are not going to be happy. This is a 50 year old motorcycle and not one you just hop on and ride whenever you like. I have a copy of a shop manual if you send me an email address I can send it to you.
Here is a link for parts http://www.hondarestoration.com/fiche_f ... _model112/ A link to a fellow that has lots of info on these bikes. http://www.vintagehonda.com/
Hey cadman,
I've been charging the bike every night and it starts right up. I could drive it for a little bit in first gear but when I shift to second or third it starts to hiccup and it's hard to keep compression without reving the bike and dies half a block down. The throttle is a little loose, and sometimes it sticks and dosent turn back automatically. Thanks again your really helping out. Well you had better fix the throttle first. If it did run good you would be in trouble real fast.
Basically second or third or forth gear is putting a bigger load on the engine. So something isn't right. Possibilities ... Bad gas or water in the gas. Bad plugs Incorrect timing Incorrect carb jetting Bad points Bad air cleaner That is the the short list - All you can do is fix one thing at a time until you find the problem. I think you had better look for help.
Well when I bought the bike the throttle was fine but after getting it back from the mechanic the throttle was sticking. I'm not sure how to go about fixing the throttle myself and that "mechanic" just cleaned the carbs might of done a horrid job. I have the manual now ( thanks to you) but after skimming through it and feeling kind of intimidated I think I may be ready to take on the job, just need a steer in direction.
Katie.
