thought some one might find this interesting .I'm new to the forum and have not had a bike with points for a long long time .Took my 1966, new to me ,bike out for a ride and felt it was down on power which led to me digging out my timing light .What i found was the points were really close ,well under the .014 more like .007 . the interesting bit is coming ..the light showed it was right on the firing marks at idle but would advance well beyond the two advance marks as the revs picked up .I opened the points up to .014 and of coarse it would hardly run but when i got things where they should be ..firing at the mark.. the over advance situation cleared right up ..I'm at a bit of a loss to explain this perhaps some one else knows what happened .
By the way the bike is now doing it's best to put out all 30 big horses
