Electronic Ignition Type 1 motor

Post by WrenchRust » Sat Aug 15, 2015 7:14 pm

I've seen a lot posted about electronic ignitions but I don't think I've seen any info on whether those set-ups are for type 1 or 2 engines.

I've done quite a few searches and haven't found any info on it, except that the discontinued e-ignition was for the Type 1.

Does anybody know if the other systems are good for the type 1 models?

Joel

The Probe units are no longer available. Charlie's Place does offer both Type 1 and Type 2 electronic ignitions, but a regulator/rectifier is required as the voltage spikes of an unregulated charging system will shorten their lifespan. Regards, Chase

The TYPE1 is available from Probe.
I call Mark Whitebook direct and use PayPal to buy them. ..............lm

Great! Looks like Mark reconsidered since last year. The Probe units are the only ones I've used, and they have been flawless. Chase

Those Hall Effect sensors are what is in BMW airheads after they went to electronic ignition.
My '87 RS still had the original when I sold it a few years ago.
