c77 1964 Starter

Post by MARG » Thu May 26, 2016 3:52 pm

Hi guys, new here, I've just pulled a 1964 c77 Dream(Canadian) out of storage after owning it for 10 yrs. 6000 miles last plated 1980. I went through it then it started and ran well first kick, it's been a real joy, all lighting and everything works. The starter spins freely but does not engage is this just from sitting or do I have to dig in behind the alternater? Is this common, I have another motor here that I can rob from. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Glen French

LM is right on the money. Those rollers and springs in the starter clutch are pretty fussy. I rebuilt a '67 C77 last year and the starter gave me no end of trouble until I bought a clutch overhaul kit, cleaned everything up, and put in the new parts. Not a lick of trouble since then.

LM, How does the spam removal process work here? We sure see a lot of it.
