CB77 Points arcing

Post by jambretta » Tue Aug 30, 2016 3:04 pm

I have a 1968 cb77 with stock points, but swapped out the rectifier for the Radio Shack solid state conversion (mentioned many times in this forum.)

The bike runs great, but there is a lot of arcing from the points to the mounting screw of the points plate at 12 o'clock.

Any clear idea on what is causing this? Do I need to be concerned? Is it the condenser going? Again, the bike starts and runs fine, but maybe it would run even better if I took care of this?

Video in the dark to show the sparks.

Does "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" apply here?

They are dirty.
Spray with cleaner.
Pull a business card through them when closed. ..................lm
