Points Plate Screws

Post by Seadog » Fri Sep 23, 2016 10:53 am

I need to replace a points plate mounting screw as one of the old ones is badly messed up by a PO not using a JIS screwdriver. The screw, honda part 93500-050120A, is 5mm x 12, but it must not be the standard JIS 0.8 pitch. Can anyone tell me what the thread pitch really is? I've borrowed a screw from my other project, but must replace it. If anyone has a source I'd appreciate it.

Seadog

Lay the screw alongside a steel rule and count the turns in a 10mm length. Divide by 10 and you have your pitch......

Thanks, G. I suppose it really doesn't matter what the actual thread pitch is, it's a special screw that I'll have to find. Ohio has them, so I'll try to put together a large enough parts list to make a order worth while. In going through my Dream parts today to find the points plate screws I saw quite a few fasteners that need to be replaced. An inventory is a good rainy day chore.

Isn't the pitch on 5mm JIS .9?

I have some of these if you need a couple.

I think you're right, Kevin. I keep a conversion chart in my shop that says JIS and ISO are both .8, but I just looked it up on the 'net and see that my chart is wrong. JIS is .9. Time for a new chart.
