CA77 Dynamic timing question

Where do I use it? Alternator stator plate?
How do I tell how many degrees before/after TDC the ignition is set (no degree markers like on a car, that I can see).
How many degrees before after TDC SHOULD it be set to?
No distributor to turn like on a car, or do you adjust via the points plate?

Among the stuff in my cupboard which I never use (and never have) is a Dwell Angle meter.

I'm told by those who know about these things that setting points using a dwell meter is 'far more accurate' than using feeler gauges to check the points gap.
I'm happy to accept this but does anyone know what the dwell angle should be for a CB77 /CL77 engine?

Yes, shine the strobe light on the alternator rotor as it is running.
At idle, the "F" line should line up with the pointer.
At max advance with engine revved up, the double marks should line up with the pointer indicating maximum advance.
Adjust by rotating points plate.
Maintenance manual shows 40 degrees advance, although I haven't actually measured the angle of the dual advance marks.
