The rare all chrome version

Post by troys305 » Tue Nov 24, 2009 7:37 pm

Hi new to the site! Just starting a restoration on a '67 305 superhawk, I have read a little about the chrome version, does anyone know what was all chrome? I have a bike that seems fairly original, I have chrome side covers which in my research so far, all I see are painted side covers. My rear shocks are also all chrome (not sure if original). Any info on that would be appreciated.
Thanks Troy

Troy, the all chrome edition has a chrome frame, as well as chrome everything. Lots of folks chromed sidecovers, headlight buckets, shocks etc back in the sixties. Perhaps they all watched Easy Rider too many times. DTS, is the frame chrome? Honda did do some all chrome bikes as gifts to dealers, the high volume ones I'd imagine. The only all chrome bike for sale to the public was the 1986 Z50, Christmas special.

I feel like there's alot of people out there that tend to go chrome crazy. I've seen all kinds of vintage Hondas where people will have one thing chromed on a bike, then start going nuts on the rest. Maybe they have alot of Harley friends, who knows. What I'm trying to say is that these are old bikes that have been around for a while, and had the chance to go through a number of different owners, all with their own backwards ideas of what looks good.

Put nicely, there lots of eccentric things we inherit from previous owners. "Oh, if I chop the frame here, I fit a CB radio onto my Superhawk, that'd be so rad!"
