My new Superhawk. I have questions

Post by big-b » Mon Feb 15, 2010 4:18 pm

Here are a few pictures, can you answer a few of my questions. The guy i bought it from said it's a 66, the title says 67 and the wire harness tag says 65.

Frame # CB77-1038282
Engine # CB77E-1038338

Is this the original motor, i don't think the numbers are supposed to match right?

The superhawks didn't come with turn signals stock did they?

The rear rack isn't stock is it? What's it from?

Are the high bars stock, i like the low bars better?

The front and rear fender, side covers, and fork lowers are supposed to be silver right?

The tank, upper fork parts, frame, swingarm and headlight bucket should be blue right?

Was the original seat blue, when searching covers i see both black and blue listed?

Thanks for the help, the answers to these questions should help me get started. I will post pictures of my progress.

Welcome!!

That number sequence with the 10 and 5 digits were used from 65-67. They made about 18 - 19,000 per year. You have aluminum lower front forks and I read most 66 and newer had these. My guess is it's an early 66. My frame number isn't far off (1039003) and I also think mine is an early 66. The funny thing is my electrical tag looks to also say 1965, guess they had a big stock of these :) It might help to have a picture of the rear (tail light) and a picture of the spedo/tack. They also changed by year.

Your blinkers look to be addon's, the same with the luggage rack. They did make winkers, but the mounting on these look a bit crude. I don't think the stock bars were that high. I'm a rookie at this, I hope someone else can verify this.

They came in black blue and red, so it looks like you have a mix of parts. It's hard to see the tank color from these pictures.

Looks like you have a nice bike to restore! Most all the parts are there, a full front fender... even a rear flap! The chrome tank covers and rubber look in nice shape. Does it run? Keep us posted!

Here are a couple more pictures that might help. The tank is blue, the same as the other blue parts. Is the chainguard and center stand supposed to be silver? I've seen it blue on some models. It doesn't run but it will.
I also have a 67 scrambler that was handed down to me by my dad. He bought it new in 67, it still looks and runs great.

I can see the color much better in these. Lee did a nice restoration on a blue SuperHawk. Here is the thread:
