One square one round

Post by cleg » Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:32 pm

OK, So I took my carbs off for rebuild and the left one has the curved float bowl and the right one is the square bowl. I cleaned them thouroughly and installed new keyster kits. The new mains would not screw into the holders so I used the old ones. Also used the new needle jets with the clip at the top (first) position and performed the tuning recipie. Using the line of sight method for the float level, the floats are quite a bit higher than 22.5 mm. The bike started right away but the left side is running rich (visible at exhaust). It idles well but when I went for a ride it will not accelerate past 1/4 throttle. I know I willl need to spend more time tuning but where should I start? Am I starting off bad with the diff carbs or will this work? This is a 66 CB77

The worst part is, it was running better before the work.

The clip should be in the second groove from the bottom! Personally, I would reinstall the origional neeedles as well. Shouldn't be an issue with the two different style carbs. Make sure you have the slides in the correct sides, cutout facing to the rear.

Thanks Davo,
I am going to change the clips and reinstall the old needles. Also, I cannot get the RH carb slide to bottom out. The adjusters on toip of the carbs are all the way screwed in and I even removed the throttle cable from the handlebar and it does not go down.

Changed clips to 2nd from bottom and now I have discovered that one of the po's had the courtesy of a RH throttle slide in the LH carb. Can I source one of these?
