Steering Races

Post by thekernal » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:58 pm

Stupid question, but before I start blindly pounding away, can someone confirm that this (the silver ring) is actually one of the steering races, and not part of the frame?

Yes - that's a bearing race.

Thanks G-Man.

The top race eventually came off with some significant pounding, but the damned bottom race wouldn't budge at all. I spent the better part of a day trying to pound it out with no luck. I eventually ended up going to home depot and picking up some supplies for a couple of dollars to make my own removal tool.

I took some pictures of the process an uploaded them to this album: http://imgur.com/a/j80LM

I'm sure there's better (and safer) ways of doing this, but for $4 worth in parts, I think it worked pretty well.
