What year is this Honda CB77 (305 Superhawk)

Post by wobijiaohao » Mon May 04, 2015 11:26 pm

My father is trying to find the year of his old Honda 305 Superhawk and can't pinpoint it. I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help. He thinks it is a 1965, but could be a 66 or 67. Is there anyway to tell? His bike had a chrome fender in the front (apparently unusual) and a flat silver/gray back fender and side covers. In 1971, the South Dakota license plate number on it was 3765. I don't know if that would help. If the bike was still around, I am sure he would even buy it back if it could be found. He would love to find it, but he never wrote the vin number down. Thanks for any help. Any information on where this actual CB could be found would be greatly appreciated too. Here are a few pictures of the motorcycle.

Hi! If the seat is the one it came with, it looks like a 1967. The silver fork legs are an indicator that it's a '67, as well. There are "higher authorities" here, than me, however, and they can tell you with much more certainty than I can. There is a tag on the wiring harness, under the gas tank, that will have a date printed on it. That is good indicator of when the bike was made, but not 100%. There are some mods on the bike in the photos, such as the handlebars. The front fender is probably not the original, and it's been "bobbed". Silver is the correct color for both fenders and the air filter covers.

Thank you, much appreciated.

I think the alloy fork lowers were from 65 onwards. That tail light was up to 65. So probably 65 with later seat and scrambler bars.

I think Sara's got it -- looks like a '67 with Scrambler bars. Missing its chainguard.

Have no clue how you'd go about finding this particular bike -- it would already be a 'needle in a haystack' situation even with the VIN's, without them it's more remote (unless he can remember who he sold it to, then establish some kid of a chain of ownership, or go through the South Dakota DMV's historical records). Easy enough to recreate that bike though, and would be a lot easier than trying to track down that specific bike.

Considering the fork sliders (1966/1967) and the tail light lens (1962/1966) I'd say it is a 1966.
Wrong front fender and bars, missing mud flap and chain guard are visible things.
Good luck finding it but it has happened. ...................lm
