The discussion is not that original is good, the rest is bad, please understand that. I let my CB72 paint in candy sapphire blue, and is for sure not a color that Honda ever used on the CB72 / 77. But I like the color, and my daily rider needed an update on the looks. No, the discussion of candy red is original or not is not about your bike specific, but as we (forum members) can give our knowledge to you if you need help, we also want to be sure of what we think we know. And the paint scheme on your bike, which is very very nice, is one of those area's where uncertainty is among members of this forum, just like police white versions, and many other differences compared to the more standard basic colors like blue, red and black. Serial No.sAs far as matching numbers go, my 66CL-77 is off by 2 digits( frame 4582, engine 4584) I personally know of the history of this bike dating back to 1975. It was in good original shape then( it looked like a well taken care of 9 year old bike) and showed no signs of ever being apart, or needing to. So, I would think matching numbers is possible...........................D

As I stated earlier "Nice but not original. Pics show frame/engine perfect match. (possible but most unusual)????? You show CB77-1043961 for this bike and I've looked it over and following is what I find. Paint looks to be Metallic Red/Clear Coat or base coat color (gold/silver) for Candy Red. HONDA Candy Red had/has depth which this bike doesn't look to have. (to me) Following are are things to consider which support my ORIGINAL statement. Chrome Fenders AFTER 1056084 Tail Light AFTER 1056084 Rear Axle installed from wrong side Engine Valley Cover from early issue engines Color (paint on) the Spark Plug cap is same as bike color????? Think about it After Market seat Very Early Valve Caps (pre 1963) Should have Riser Bars after 1028216 Foot Shift Rubber used on VERY EARLY bike only After Market Rear Rim (spokes bent @ nipples and stampings on side) One piece Mufflers after 1050970 (something strange @ Head Pipe Muffler joint????) Flat Washer @ top/rear/ engine mount bolt and I can't see the Battery Ground at that location???? As mentioned earlier the Top Shock Cover has been painted (painted plastic by HONDA???) If it's not original someone has done a good job as I can find no trace of the original paint ? The bike is for sure a nice Rebuild but not what I/some others consider as a Restore My restorations have correct parts and when I prepare the parts for new paint I Glass Blast ALL the paint (original or added by some previous owner) so ya won't find any original paint no matter where ya look To those who have a frame/frames with original HONDA Paint still at the Frame Number area ya may want to look how/when those numbers were stamped into it If that area hasn't been painted since HONDA issued the bike you should/will find the numbers stamped AFTER the frame was PAINTED Jonty ya do have a good looking Rebuild but in my bike world it isn't to me a restoration I do hope ya ride and enjoy it. ................lm
